Hidden Gem In The Depths Of The Earth
Chromite: The term "chromium" comes from the Greek word "chroma," meaning color. This element is a hard, brittle metal. Chromite is an important metal used in the production of steel and other metallic alloys. This mineral is mainly found in countries such as South Africa, India, Turkey, Russia, and Afghanistan.
Chromite mines are found in parts of Afghanistan, especially in the provinces of Khost, Logar, and Parwan. Chromium is a naturally occurring metal with a jet-black color.
Recently, the valuable chromite in Logar Province, Afghanistan, has been on the verge of extraction. The Ministry of Mines of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan says it has awarded the extraction of the chromite mine area in Azra district, Logar province, to a private company through a bidding process.
According to the ministry, this company will extract chromite for five years at a cost of 151 million Afghanis. The extraction of this mineral will lead to economic growth and job creation for the people of Afghanistan.
Government officials in Afghanistan say that over the next five years, more than eleven thousand tons of chromite will be extracted in this country. Extracting this amount of chromite will generate nearly 119 million Afghanis in revenue.
According to officials, the price of one ton of chromite from this mine reaches 10,500 Afghanis. This valuable stone, which is only found in a few limited countries, is still in high demand in the modern world because there is no substitute for chromite in ferrochrome production, which is used in the steel industry. Chromium and chromite have many direct and indirect uses in modern industry.
The importance of this metal lies in its non-corrosive nature. The melting point of this metal is 2,300 degrees Celsius. It is usually found together with iron and magnesium.
In the near future, Afghanistan will transform into one of the chromite exporters in the region, achieving self-sufficiency and contributing to the remarkable economic growth of this mineral-rich country.
