Increasing Cotton Yields In 17 Provinces

The amount of cotton yield has increased in 17 provinces of the country. The Ministry of Agriculture reports that in the past year, 72,000 tons of cotton were collected and most of the farmers grow cotton instead of poppy.

Mesbah Mustain, the spokesperson of the Ministry of Agriculture, said: "72,493 tons of cotton  harvested, which were bought by merchants."

According to this ministry, most cotton are grown in Takhar, Kunduz, Baghlan, Samangan, Balkh, Jawzjan, Kandahar, Helmand, and many other provinces.

However, the Ministry of Industry and Trade says that Afghanistan exported cotton worth $168 million to foreign countries in 1401.

Akhundzadah Abdulsalam Javad, the spokesman of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, said: "Most of our cotton exports from Afghanistan are to Uzbekistan, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, China, and Germany, and the amount of our exports are about 168 million dollars."

Meanwhile, many farmers in Helmand province say that they have turned to cotton cultivation due to higher income.
