Meanwhile, the Ministry of Disaster Management says Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Russia, China, Pakistan and a number of other countries have helped Afghanistan so far.

India is sending 8,000 tonnes of wheat to Afghanistan this month. The wheat is part of 50,000 tonnes of Indian auxiliary wheat expected to enter Afghanistan via Pakistan, Reuters reported.

But the head of the Central Silo does not consider this amount of aid to be enough to prevent poverty in the country.

"This wheat can not solve the problem of all the people, but it is currently being distributed out of necessity," said Nasrullah Mansour, head of the Central Silo.

"Sending wheat to the moment can be effective, but in order to prevent poverty in the long run, we need to increase investment in industry and agriculture," said Bashir Bashiri, an economics expert.

Afghanistan needs six million tons of wheat a year, much of which comes from its agricultural lands.
