Taliban Bans Use Of Dollars In Afghanistan
The Taliban say the use of foreign currency by citizens, shopkeepers and businessmen is banned anymore in the country.
In a statement issued yesterday evening (Tuesday, Scorpio 11) by Zabihullah Mujahid, Deputy Minister of Information and Culture, the Taliban movement said that the use of foreign currency in day-to-day transactions was strictly prohibited.
"The economic situation and national interests of the country require that all Afghans use Afghan currency in trade," the statement said. "The use of foreign currency has negative effects on the country's economy, and it harms all our compatriots."
The decision comes as Afghanistan faces economic hardship and its foreign exchange reserves are frozen in foreign banks.
