World Health Organization: Life Risk Of One Million Children Due To Malnutrition

Date: Nov 17, 2021, 15:36

The World Health Organization says that by the end of this year, 3.2 million Afghan children will be severely malnourished. The organization added that as the weather cools, one million of them are at risk of death.

Meanwhile, Human Rights Watch warns that Afghanistan is at risk of famine and that the United Nations and other international agencies must take immediate action to prevent famine.

The statement said that in order to prevent the spread of famine in Afghanistan, it is necessary to address the "collapsed economy and bankrupt banking system" in Afghanistan.

Poverty and hunger have led some families to sell their children to buy food and other necessities, the organization said in a statement.

For nearly three months now, poverty and hardship in Afghanistan have skyrocketed, and according to the United Nations, more than half of Afghanistan's population is in urgent need of assistance.

Earlier, the World Food Program (WFP) chief warned of the spread of poverty during a visit to Afghanistan, saying that millions of Afghans would be threatened by famine as winter approached.
