China: Afghanistan's Frozen Money Needs To Be Released
China has demanded that the United States release frozen assets of the Central Bank of Afghanistan.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Weinbin also called for the lifting of US unilateral sanctions on Afghanistan at a news conference on Monday.
"The United States, as the initiator of the crisis in Afghanistan, should not lose sight of this. Unilateral sanctions are worsening the economic and living situation in Afghanistan. We call on the United States to deeply understand its mistakes, to shoulder its international responsibilities, its assets." "Free Afghanistan to freeze and lift unilateral sanctions on the country as soon as possible."
The United States froze about $ 1.5 billion in assets of the Central Bank of Afghanistan after the Taliban seized Kabul on August 15 last year.
International aid to Afghanistan has also fallen sharply over the past five months, which is considered a serious blow to the country's economy.
