NASDAQ is a global online market for buying and selling securities. This market started its activity in the financial markets as a subsidiary of "National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD)", which is known today as "Financial Industry Regulatory Organization (FINRA)". Nasdaq started when the financial markets of the stock exchange and the stock exchange commission asked it to automate those securities markets that are not included in the list of financial markets, and as a result, in February 1971, the first online trading system was created and start to work.

Introduction and Recognition of Nasdaq

The term Nasdaq, sometimes referred to as the "Nasdaq Composite Index", is an index of more than 3,700 stocks listed on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, which includes technology giants including Apple, Amazon, Google, Microsoft, Meta and Tesla.

Nasdaq officially separated from NASD in 2006 and started operating as a national stock exchange. In 2008, this stock exchange was combined with the Scandinavian exchange company “OMX” to form the “Nasdaq-OMX Group”. In 2015, this company changed its name to Nasdaq, which is headquartered in New York. Nasdaq manages 29 different markets and provides the possibility of trading stocks, derivatives, fixed income and commodities in the United States of America, Canada, Scandinavia and the Baltics. Also, this stock exchange manages 5 securities and clearing houses in the United States of America and Europe. This business technology is used by 100 stock companies in 50 countries. Nasdaq stock company is registered as NDAQ symbol in Nasdaq stock market and since 2008 it is a part of "S & P 500" index.

NASDAQ's computerized trading system was initially introduced as an alternative to the inefficient "Specialist" system that had been the dominant market model for nearly a century. Of course, the rapid development of technology made this stock exchange an online trading system in the financial markets of the world.

In November 2016, Mrs. Adna Friedman, the operating manager of this market, was promoted to the position of CEO and became the first woman to manage a major stock market in the United States of America.

         Market technology: which includes transaction and payment frameworks, and technological shelters against financial crimes.

         Large corporate services: such as payroll listings and investment relations services.

 

Performance of the NASDAQ Composite Index

"NASDAQ Composite" closed on November 19, 2021 with a record high of 16057.44. This index decreased by more than 23% from that point until April 2022. The 13.3% decline in the Nasdaq composite in April 2022 was its worst monthly decline since October 2020, when the index fell 17.4% in the midst of the global financial crisis.
