A spokesman for the UN Secretary-General said that the Afghan people were facing a difficult winter, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. At the same time, he announced that he had raised $ 1.5 billion to help Afghanistan.

Stephen Dujarric said that the UN humanitarian partners are competing with time to deliver aid and supplies in order to commit to increased operations.

Dujarric says UN humanitarian partners provided food aid to seven million people in Afghanistan in December.

Cash, food and non-food aid is being provided in various parts of Afghanistan, according to a spokesman for the UN Secretary-General.

The development aid on which Afghanistan's economy was based also stalled after the Taliban took control. The United States, on the other hand, has frozen about $ 10 billion in central bank assets.

All of these factors, as well as last year's drought, have left half of Afghanistan's population without access to adequate food, according to aid agencies.
