Increasing Import Tax Caused Herat Traders To Complain
some importers of food and detergents in Herat province demanded a reduction in customs duties on these substances.
The Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment said in a press release today that the traders met with the chamber officials yesterday evening and said that until Afghanistan becomes self-sufficient in the production of food and detergents, it is necessary to import such goods.
The traders called on the officials of the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment to work in coordination with the government to reduce customs duties on these materials.
Officials at the Herat Chamber of Commerce and Investment have also promised to cooperate.
However, after the rule of the Taliban and the rise of the dollar against the Afghan currency, the prices of all materials, especially foodstuffs, have risen.
