Poppy Cultivation In Afghanistan Has Increased By 8% Compared To Last Year

According to the United Nations, opium poppy production in Afghanistan has increased by 8% compared to last year. The United Nations added: "Since the beginning of this year, Afghanistan has earned two billion and seven hundred million dollars from poppy production.

According to some farmers, compared to last year, this year more people have turned to poppy cultivation.

In 2021, Afghanistan produced 6,800 tonnes of opium, according to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The Taliban have said they will reduce poppy cultivation and drug trafficking to zero, but they have called on UN to help the farmers.
